80-20 Rule

Let’s talk numbers. What is the 80-20 rule. This is the easiest way to start eating healthier. You eat good Whole Foods 80% of the time and not 20%.  Easy right? Well ……. yes and no. If your eating things you think is healthy but aren’t (fruit juices, low-carb junk food, breakfast bars etc.)

Cheat dates just dont work for me. I hate my life for 6 days and then cave. In the long run that’s just not going to work for me. I’m  trying to maintain what I have smoothly into my 40’s & 50’s . Eating well and staying active is key.
I know how hard it can be to eat clean. What to eat what not to eat. The 80-20 rule is eat clean 80% of the time cheat 20% of the time.

If you are new to nutrition and you dont know what falls into a protein or carb category. Will go over proteins carbs and different kind of carbs and proteins. will start with the basics and work our way up.

The diet revolves around the 80-20 rule. To creat a long term healthy life style. Eat clean 80% of the time cheat 20% of the time.

In your 80% you should have all your whole foods. Whole Foods are plant foods that are unprocessed and unrefined. Wheat, wholegrain rice, quinoa rolled oats, beans and legumes, nuts, seeds, fruit and veggies.

In your 80% you also want to include high protein items. Like dairy Milk, cheese, yogurt. nuts & of course meats. Protein is harder to break down so you burn more calories breaking it down and it also keeps you fuller longer. Your carbs should be good carbs. You will have to learn your good and bad carbs “simple carbs and complex carbs” complex carbs are going to be all your good carbs and healthy options like whole grains, wheat bread, legumes, rice, vegetables and fruits . Simple carbs is anything with sugar, white bread, chips and everything not good for you like candy, pasta, sugar ect.

Now for your 20% this is going to be anything that comes in a bag, or is process and full of sugar. Examples: Pasta, pastries, chips, candies, sugary drinks. If it’s packaged in a bag its probably processed. Enjoy with moderation. If you already had a bowl of pasta that’s probably your 20% for the day and you should put the ice cream down that day and save it for another day.
